Hey Everyone! 👋
Welcome back to my newsletter, today we’re going to be looking over the month of November! I hope all of you had a fun and productive month.
If it’s your first time here, my name is Jayant Arora, and I’m a 17-year-old Innovator at The Knowledge Society (TKS) in Toronto, Canada.
Well, you might be wondering what I did this month. Let’s get right to it!
Artificial Intelligence 🖥
As mentioned over the past few months, I started researching and working on projects in the Artificial Intelligence field. In the past few weeks, I learned how to work with OpenCV in Python for computer vision 👀. I replicated a car number plate detector that will identify, read and save a car number plate from a live photo/video feed or saved images/videos. This is often used for speeding cameras and license plate readers on toll roads! I recently published an article explaining how I built this project and included a project demo, be sure to check it out below!👇🚗
Hackathon 🛠
This month, I participated in the TKS Explore Hackathon!
Goal: Create an application/product to solve a real world problem using emerging technologies.
My group and I used concepts in Artificial Intelligence and Brain-Computer Interfaces to come up with the idea of diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease much quicker than the status quo. This would be done by analyzing patients’ brain signals with machine learning algorithms, comparing them to an already trained dataset. Though we did not win, it was a great experience.
Key Takeaways 🔑
Challenge your ideas: Get someone to poke holes. Does it make sense?
Make sure your ideas are impactful and address an apparent problem.
Time Management - Planning out and scheduling/organizing our day was beneficial as we only had 6 hours.
Mindset 🧠
The focus for this month was to get stuff done because done is better than perfect. This is a striking topic to look into because, more often than not, we tend to continuously change small things in projects and never actually get them finished – I can relate to this, and I know that a lot of you can too. Being “done” with a task gets you results while perfecting often leads to work insecurity. Additionally, if you’ve put in a reasonable amount of effort and finished the task, you’ll be confident in your work.
“Done is better than perfect because perfect never gets done.” ✅
Goals for December 📆
In December, I’ll continue my learning in Artificial Intelligence - more specifically, building projects with TensorFlow! Let’s finish off the year strong! Hustle Hard 💪
Anyway, that’s it for me! Hope everyone stays safe and does well in December!
Regards,
Jayant Arora

Hey, man thank you for this nice read. I hope the next issue would be 2021 recap instead of December recap or you can do both. And one thing more, if you are going for Deep learning then try to go for Pytorch, instade of tf. it would be lot more helpful. And a lots of high scholers these days doing kaggle. Which is like codeforces for ML/AI. I suppose you should try that too.
