Hey Everyone! 👋
Welcome back to my newsletter, today we’re going to be looking over the month of October! I hope all of you had a fun and productive month.
If it’s your first time here, my name is Jayant Arora, and I’m a 17-year-old Innovator at The Knowledge Society (TKS) in Toronto, Canada.
Well, you might be wondering what I did this month. Let’s get right to it!
Artificial Intelligence 💻
As mentioned last month, I started researching and working on projects in the Artificial Intelligence field. As you may remember, last month I wrote an article on Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), but this month I looked into Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). More specifically, I recently published an article explaining how CNNs work and what they can be used for, be sure to check it out below!👇
Artificial (not so) Intelligent 🤔
While playing around with some of the tools in the Artificial Intelligence field, I started to train an object detection model using YOLO and OpenCV. YOLO (You Only Look Once) 👀 is a real-time object detection model that can detect and inform users of what is presented in front of it with computer vision. For example, if I take a picture of the street, the model will tell where the pedestrians, cars, buses, buildings, etc., are. This type of real-time detection model is used in autonomous vehicles! 🚗
As you can see, the model could detect two cars and a person - the highlight of the picture, but still requires some tweaking to build accuracy. More on this next month!
Mindset 🧠
In October, I worked on the Bias Towards Action mindset! It means that you don’t just come up with an idea, but you also quickly put the idea into action. So often, we spend too long brainstorming or deciding what would make more sense. Ideally, it’s just like how Nike says, “Just do it” - don’t overthink it, just do it.
"Confidence comes from action. The more you do, the more you see how much you can do, and the more confident you become about taking action. The less you do, the more you get into your own head and build up what you have to do as something difficult."
Goals for November 📆
In November, I’ll continue to research and work on an Artificial Intelligence project!
Anyway, that’s it for me! Hope everyone stays safe and does well in November!
Regards,
Jayant Arora
